On Thursday, DWR Director Karla Nemeth rescinded various permitting applications for the Water Fix project, including those in front of the State Water Resources Control Board, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and federal agencies responsible for compliance with the Endangered Species Act. “A smaller project, coordinated with a wide variety of actions to strengthen existing levee protections, protect Delta water quality, recharge depleted groundwater reserves, and strengthen local water supplies across the state, will build California’s water supply resilience,” said Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot. The change in plans follows the governor’s recent executive order directing state agencies to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy to build a climate-resilient water system. The new project is expected to protect water supply reliability while limiting impacts on local Delta communities and fish. The project is needed, they said, to protect water supplies from sea-level rise and saltwater intrusion into the Delta, as well as earthquake risk. The results revealed the success of the artificial neural network and indicated that the network managed to estimate the test data with a high correlation coefficient. Observation points are defined on the tunnel wall in a realistic numerical modeling to compare the convergence results. To achieve this objective, three different methods including statistical (SPSS), artificial neural network (ANN) and numerical modeling (3DEC) have been used. ![]() The goal of this research is introducing a new convergence criterion for water conveyance tunnel based on the data from 31 convergence measurement stations of the Chehel Chay water conveyance tunnel. ![]() Larger convergences may lead to safety problems such as rock destruction, boring machines jamming, delays in projects, or even geological disasters, in which case convergence measurement is considered the best method. One of the important methods used by tunnel construction engineers to examine the design, construction safety factor, and tunnel boring procedures is convergence measurement.
